People were being pretty rude to Thomas on twitter last night and he stood up for himself so nicely and without being rude back.

To everyone asking, people were being a bit pushy about “Sleep” on Twitter. As well as someone said something mean about Joan’s pronouns and people keep reposting art that isn’t there’s to try and get noticed.

Did some digging, and the person who was nasty wasty about Joan’s pronouns has apologized, they were just confused and admitted to being unnecessarily rude… just now people are still bullying them??? The fanders USED to be so nice and supportive of each other, without jumping to such conclusions as “they were mean and therefore BAD PERSON”, believe it or not, but fanders were a lot different just a year or so ago… fewer of us made us more genuine. now lots of the newbies will hate you forever even if you learn and sincerely apologize…

literally stop with this. you hate the new fanders because? 0.1% of them are attacking someone because theyre not fully informed of the situation? so you attack every single new fander?

look, the fanders have always had the bad eggs. every fandom does. even from the start we’ve had people like that but you dont notice them because they never gain much if any attention. now, because we’re a bigger fandom, so is that 0.1%.

and i get that it seems like we have a lot of bad people but thats only because we tend to overlook all the decent people. most of the decent people dont feel the need to express their positive opinion on something, whereas that 0.1% obsessively tries to put their negativity out there. so of course you see more of them then you do of the decent fanders.

but seriously stop with this “the fanders used to be so nice” bullshit. theres ALWAYS been rude and downright cruel fanders. you know what else happened a year ago? multiple fanders received anon hate & death threats. people were racist to the mexican fanders, aphobic to the ace fanders and many nonbinary people had their identities invalidated by fanders from a year ago. maybe you didnt see it happen, but i saw it constantly.

we’ve never been a 100% good, pure and friendly fandom. dont dismiss the new people as ingenious just because 0.1% is ignorant.

what we need to do as a fandom is to EDUCATE people. not gatekeep or reminsce on your lying memories of “the good old days”.

educate the new fanders and especially the new tumblrs on how to respond to something like that.

because what you just said? thats how old people treat millennials & gen z. you literally sound like a baby boomer complaining about the younger generation when, guess what? things have always been slightly shit. there have always been bad people. instead of complaining, educate.

 this fandom is one of the nicest fandoms that I’ve come across. They are caring and supportive. Yes, there are a handful of bad ones, but every fandom has that. But you have to realize that it was always like this. The act of saying the old is so much better than the new is a mistake. As a fandom grows, there are bound to be new people that spread negativity, but along with those people also come others ready to block that negativity out.

You are not better because you were here first. The only thing that makes you better is if you are kind, non-judgmental, and supportive. When you see a few bad acts, don’t immediately assume that the whole fandom is like that.
