those posts criticizing common writing patterns in fanfiction are so fucking harmful and they ruined me

so like yknow what??? People tell you to avoid “smirk” and “chuckle” as descriptors because no one does those things (???) but then when I need to use those words I have a ten minute crisis about how I’m a shitty writer. So heres my unwarranted writing advice: If you want your characters to smirk and chuckle fucking let them and don’t let anyone tell you that no one smirks or chuckles because I do both on a daily basis whenever I tell a shitty pun, bye

Edgy fanfiction critics can eat my entire ass.

Yeah I’ve had this issue many times while writing. I’ll look up different words for things that have been criticized for being overused, I’ll read list upon list of things I can put after someone speaks rather than “said”, and then I just give up. It’s too much effort to please fanfiction critics, especially since none of them are probably even reading my stuff. My followers seem to like my writing and that’s all that matters to me.

Would it help to know that it’s actually a good writing strategy to use Said more than everyone tells you to? Like, you can use it as much as you like, and what that does, is it makes the other words you use—like “exclaimed” or “snarled” or stuff like that—more impactful!

Wow, I never thought of that!
