I know everyone on here is obsessed with American politics (for good reason), but I want to remind Victorian Aussies that our state election is on November 24, and our election system is not like the US. It’s possible to vote for 3rd parties (such as the Greens), and have your vote still count against our main conservative party, the poorly named ‘Liberals’. Do not be afraid to choose third party or independent candidates, but double-check they give their preferences to Labor and not Liberal.
If you are enrolled and do not vote, you will be fined. If you believe you have good reason to not have voted (such as health reasons), please call Victorian Legal Aid or call the National Debt Helpline on 1800 007 007 for information about how to contest the fine. There are other voting options for people who can’t attend booths on the day.
If you aren’t enrolled to vote and think, ‘sweet, I’ll get out of a fine’, you can’t come to my fucking birthday party you apathetic little shit. Please contribute in making sure your country doesn’t go to the fucking dogs like the US has. Enrol to vote, turn up to vote, and read the instructions on the voting slips to make sure your vote will count.
