so I’m all for alec proposing, and honestly cant chose between

1. alec plans and executes his proposal plan with the precision and detail of an institute mission. because magnus is perfect and he deserves this to be perfect

2. alec throws the entire plan out the window and just blurts it out. he just loves magnus so much and every second that they haven’t pledged the rest of their lives to each other is a second too long

BUT. but…..I also really want it to be magnus that proposes because

magnus chased alec down pretty aggressively in the beginning but once alec chose him, he took a big step back. and part of that was to give alec comfort and let him set the pace of this new thing between them. but the other part is that magnus is deliberately holding himself back

he doesn’t believe he deserves happiness. he doesn’t believe he is worth staying for. (too much, too demonic, too dangerous.) he’s convinced that loss and heartbreak are somehow his due, because why would anyone choose forever with him? he’s holding back because he’s scared

I want magnus to propose because I want him to overcome all these things. no more holding back, no more constant doubts about his self-worth. he wants his life with alec and for the first time, he believes. I want him to know he’s worthy of love and good things. to truly accept in his head and his heart that alec loves him with every drop of devotion that magnus feels for him in return. his whole life, marriage was a dream beyond his grasp but dropping to his knee, looking up into alec’s shocked and hopeful face, it feels natural

he believes in it. he believes in himself. he believes in them

Yes, Magnus proposing would be a huge moment of character growth for him. To see himself as worthy of love and of Alec’s love. Plus being married which has been hinted at as something that he’s long wanted (1×08).
