Okay so This post by @oh-star-how-the-mighty-fall has been going around and it really made me think about how Thomas makes the Sides body language and facial expressions so different from each other to the point where we can tell them apart even without their typical outfits. And its sorta fascinating to me to figure out what exactly he does differently and im also gonna end up using this as a reference for my art and fic, So Here We Go
(oh shit this got long Facial Expressions are going to be a different post)
Thomas
The boy does not stand still.
He stays in the center of the frame when he’s speaking to the camera, but his shoulders are constantly in motion. Shifting back and forth. turning to reference where the other sides would stand.
That Shoulder Shimmy
When Thomas gestures the movement tends to be symmetrical with both hands doing the same motion
Roman
Stands with his shoulders back and chin up
Surprisingly says in one spot more than Thomas.
It doesn’t seem like that because he gestures so widely and expansively
Where as Thomas’s gestures are mainly symmetrical Roman’s are asymmetrical typically with his one of his hands over his head.
Patton
Shifts in place just as much Thomas, but his movements are more fluid.
Tends to lean his full body towards the other sides instead of just shifting his shoulders
Tends to clasp his hands together often, and his gesturing tends to be close to the body but still very energetic
He tends to repeat movements at least twice
Logan
Second most still out of all the sides
Where as Patton’s movements are fluid, Logan’s have a sharp quality to them. Not harsh or angry, just abrupt
Logan tends to point more than any other side, and his gestures tend to be single handed
Virgil
Tends to stand in one place, but leans forward to emphasis his points
Where as Thomas’s shoulders tend to swivel Virgil’s tend to bunch up
Also does the Shoulder Shimmy when hes worried or unsure
He tends to slump to one side or the other
Deceit
Keeps his body very still
Similar to Roman his gestures are very asymmetrical
Slightly leans towards the persons he’s addressing
