Pride is a joke for letting the cops arrest her in the first place
Some really appalling reactions in the comment chain here supporting the police bullshit line that flag burning in a public space is a “safety hazard.” This post has gone viral and hit alt-right troll tumblr, so I’m assuming a lot of the transphobic hate, dumb authoritarianism, attempts to claim the “BLM” flag was from Black rather than Blue Lives Matter, and “so trans people can’t commit crimes now” reactions are from there, but not all the people defending this arrest are trolls or bots. Please be smarter than this, kids.
Also, on that “Pride is a joke for letting them take her” response…if you have the ability to intervene in an unlawful arrest without putting yourself at undue risk, do it. Police, ICE, whoever. Get things on film, use your nice white lady voice if that’s something you have access to. There aren’t a lot of situations where it’s anything like safe to dearrest someone, but a giant, wild parade full of drunk people who are all dressed in loud, almost identical costumes is as close as you’re going to get. This entire situation is a mess.
