See, she took the first picture ever of dna and these two guys had the audacity to steal it from her and take all the credit.
She took X-ray diffraction images of DNA, which was likely a contributing factor in her death by ovarian cancer. Franklin then died before she could be awarded any recognition for her work.
So not only was her massive accomplishment stolen from her, but she died to make it happen.
Unfortunately this happens far too often in science history. I think the only reason Madame Curie is even remembered at all is because she was married to the guy who would have otherwise taken all the credit. It’s really important to remember who made the proper achievements in science, not who found the person who achieved the progress.
The thing with Rosalind Franklin is that she was very smart and everyone in her university knew it. Wilkins, her laboratory partner, was no exception. However, the main problem she had was that they were all huge mysogynists and she could not deal with that shit. So she decided to transfer to another university and finish her studies there. By then, she already had the image of the DNA, first ever to take it, first ever to see it. Wilkins, in a fit of rage, took said picture when he found out she was moving and showed it to Watson and Crick. This fucker had no idea of te importance of the picture and he was probably looking to make fun of her. Watson and Cric, however, understood the relevance at the moment and took the pictures for themselves, winning the Nobel Prize thanks to that.
