To be completely honest, I think I got lucky. I cam across a post that I thought would make a cool fic, and it was circulating at the time. I jokingly said I would write it, but people showed genuine interest in reading where I would take it.
The first thing, and I think this is most important, is to write for yourself. Write what you want and enjoy doing it for the sake of doing it. Writing for recognition can hurt in the long run.
Secondly, interacting with the readers you do have is not only fun, but can build some amazing friendships! I can thank my writing for 2 of 3 amazing friends, so interact!
Thirdly, accepting compliments is hard. Heck, I don’t even think my own writing is any good. But if someone has the bravery to dish me a compliment? If someone is going to spend time and energy trying to make me feel good? I’ll try and accept it. Thank you goes a long way.
Always strive to improve. No ones writing is ever perfect. If you can and want to, ask a friend to beta read for you! Constructive critisim and people to bounce ideas off is a great time! (And your works will benefit as a result).
Have fun. If you’re not having fun, there’s no point to it. If you want to abandon a fic because of that, you can. I have. And I’ll do it again if it happens.
Most importantly, put your work out there. It’s terrifying. I know. Its not easy and it takes work, but it’s also a hell of a lot of fun.As to growing your blog? Like I said, I’m pretty sure I got lucky. I wrote a story a lot of people like. And that’s how I’ve ended up with such amazing friends, a fulfilling past time and a place that makes me smile. I don’t know about anyone else, but I’m just here to have fun.
Feel free to tag me in your work if you post it! I’d love to see how it goes!
(P.S: taglists help. Consistent readers really help give ya a boost when you need it! Dont focus on the likes or the like/reblog ratio. They’re fun and nice? But I focus on the comments. They fuel me and help me strive for better.)
Remember to have fun, Non!🖤💜
